Welia Health loves to read!
For the past seven years, Welia Health has made promoting literacy a priority by giving away thousands of books to area children.
Since third grade is a pivotal year where children transition from learning to read to reading to learn, speech pathologists and pediatric occupational therapist professionals visit area schools and read the first chapter of a book together.
Welia Health would like to thank Amy Miller, Julie Rue, Liz Eklund, and Bethany Wener for spending time with local third graders during I Love to Read Month, highlighting the importance of reading.
According to one study, more than a third of Americans have just basic or low health literacy, which can lead to more emergency room visits, hospitalizations, decreased ability to take prescriptions correctly, and higher overall healthcare expenses. Connections like those with local students can help increase the literacy and have a positive impact now, and later in life.
Welia Health also thanks Mora, Ogilvie, Pine City, Finlayson, and Hinckley elementary schools for their cooperation in making this annual event a success.
