The US Food and Drug Administration has approved the first COVID-19 vaccine, Pfizer-BioNTech, to prevent COVID-19 disease in people 16 years and older. For individuals who are moderate to severely immunocompromised, the CDC recently recommended an additional dose of mRNA COVID-19 vaccine at least 28 days after a second dose. The vaccine will continue to be available to children ages 12-15 years under the emergency use authorization (EUA).
