On December 15, 2020 members of the Kanabec County Commissioner’s Board unanimously voted to grant annexation, enabling Welia Health to privatize and establish as a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit organization. Welia Health anticipates all legal paperwork to be complete by June 30, 2021.
While its providers will no longer be employed by Allina Health as of August 31, 2021, the relationship with Allina will remain strong. Tele-medicine services, referrals, electronic health record maintenance and other support needed will still be provided by Allina Health.
Discussions began in September and the proposal has been in the review process since. A public hearing was held in late September explaining the rationale behind the request.
