Welia Health continues to support local high school graduates further their education by providing $8,000 in renewable scholarships
Earlier this month, local high school students pursuing a higher education in the healthcare field were awarded renewable scholarships from Welia Health.
“Welia Health remains passionate about supporting and investing in area students to develop the next generation of rural medical providers,” says Randy Ulseth, Welia Health’s CEO. “Whether it’s a doctor or nurse, ancillary or administrative services, we are committed to cultivating a future of healthcare professionals.”
Recipients for the 2021-2022 school year
- Ada Krueger, a graduate from Mora High school will attend the College of St. Scholastica choosing a degree in nursing with a minor in Spanish.
- Ella Heins a graduate from Ogilvie High School plans to pursue a bachelor’s degree in nursing at the College of St. Scholastica this fall.
- Rhaya Merrick a Pine City High School graduate will attend St. Catherine’s University to pursue a degree in nursing.
- Jacob Grice, a graduate from Hinckley-Finlayson High School has chosen Winona State University choosing a nursing career path with aspirations of becoming a nurse anesthesia (CRNA).
Recipients are chosen through a scholarship selection committee where their academics, extra-curricular activities, work experience, letter of recommendation and essay are considered. Candidates are encouraged to use the essay to describe their personal goals and share experiences to portray their inspiration and dreams to work in the medical field.
The scholarship recipients are eligible for yearly renewal, maxing at 4 years, if they continue to be enrolled full-time in either a two or four-year post-secondary degree program in an area of healthcare deemed desirable by Welia Health. The student must also maintain a 3.2 cumulative GPA.
Welia Health established a scholarship program in 2010 and has paid out over $252,000 since its inception.
